The Christmas Challenge 2018

WHEN: 27th November 2018 – 04th December 2018

Giving Tuesday is the day to do good stuff for charity and this is the day the Christmas Challenge goes live.

WHAT IS IT  ALL ABOUT? The Christmas Challenge is the biggest match funding campaign in the UK.

It offers supporters of participating charities the opportunity to double their donations. For example, an online donation of £100 is doubled to £200. If Gift Aid is claimed, it could be worth £225. Donations are doubled whilst matching funds last.

It’s a wonderful way to help ChildAid raise more money for vulnerable children.

We want to support as many children with physical disabilities as possible.

The project will enable children with physical disabilities to access vital professional therapies that will improve the quality of their lives and that of their families. It will also contribute towards changing systemic attitudes towards children with disabilities within the wider community.

Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Eastern Europe. As with many countries in Eastern Europe, awareness and support around disability is limited. Children with physical disabilities do not have wide access to care and rehabilitation, perceptions sometimes are very negative even from same family members.

Tony Hawks Centre

Dr. Diana Covalciuc decided that something had to be done about it. She set up the Tony Hawks Centre to help as many children with physical disability as possible and offer them free access to therapies that will bring a better quality in their life.

Tony Hawks, writer and comedian, who has sponsored the Centre from its very beginning says:

‘‘We are at a crossroads. The need for the centre to grow is overwhelming. Moldovan politicians are waking up to the fact that this kind of healthcare should be provided by the state – but a walk around the Children’s Hospital in Chisinau will reveal just how much money needs to be spent elsewhere – and the government just doesn’t have the money.’’

The Children

We want to continue to enable children living with disabilities in poor and vulnerable families to have the right to access free to use treatments.

Over 600 children can have access to ‘free to use’ therapies – 12,600 therapy sessions provided annually plus hydro and speed therapy and psychopedagogy sessions.

As one parent says: "You are saving lives. You make tomorrow happy, especially for our children"
