Bring Hope This Christmas to Children at Risk in Ukraine and Moldova

Christmas Hope, New Year Light for Children at Risk

As Christmas approaches and we look ahead to a new year, ChildAid continues to support children at risk and families in crisis in Ukraine and Moldova. While many of us prepare for celebration, thousands of children are living with fear, uncertainty, and loss.

Across our work, we encounter situations no family should ever face.

Impossible Choices for Parents

Helping children face winter with hope.

Extreme poverty and lack of support force some parents to make heartbreaking decisions.

Families are pushed to consider placing their children in orphanages because they cannot afford food, heating, or medical care. Newborn babies are sometimes left in hospital—not through lack of love, but through despair and isolation. ChildAid works to prevent family breakdown and child abandonment by supporting parents early—providing practical help, emotional support, and access to services so families can stay together and children do not enter institutional care.

Children with disabilities are among the most vulnerable. Without specialist care or inclusive education, many face a life of isolation, unable to reach their full potential simply because the support they need does not exist.

Children Growing Up in War

In Ukraine, children are growing up surrounded by conflict.
Elena still wakes up at night crying, reliving the moment her home was bombed. She clings to her mother, frightened to let her out of sight, terrified of losing her too. Trauma has taken away her sense of safety.

Teenagers suffer quietly. Many take on adult responsibilities far too early—caring for younger siblings, missing school, and facing an uncertain future. Their education, wellbeing, and dreams are at risk.

Families Struggling to Survive

Parents and carers live with constant worry:

Will there be enough food? Warm clothes? Heating ?Medicine?
The pressure of meeting basic needs is overwhelming, especially during winter.

This Christmas, families need more than sympathy—they need practical support and hope

Receiving a food parcel isn’t just about nourishment—it’s a reminder that families are not alone.
