Transnistria is disputed territory located between the river Dniester in Moldova and Ukraine. A region that is frozen in time as it harks back to the days of the Soviet Union and communism.
Our partnership with Family Love (previously Help the Children) operates alongside local church leaders who identify the most vulnerable families in their communities. Then in conjunction with the Family Love’s social worker, we consider and meet their most pressing needs to enable the family to stay together and not to abandon their children through economic necessity. This may be a winter supply of wood, school uniform and equipment, or medicines.
We delivered firewood to one poor families in this extremely poor region. They have a new born and our partner met the doctor who was angry because it was so incredibly cold inside. He wanted to take the mum and child into the hospital and if the family did not get any warmth for the child, he would be taken to the orphanage.
Our gift (thanks to our supporters generosity) arrived exactly on time enabling the family to stay together.
An additional social worker is now also employed and her role is to get alongside mothers who have lost self-esteem and the strength and character to be good mothers. She educates and coaches them into good parenting skills.
