Rosa's Journey from crisis to recovery
From Eastern Ukraine to Mukachevo
Rosa and her daughters, Anna (12) and Sofia (10), fled their home in eastern Ukraine during the early days of the invasion. Already facing significant personal losses, they sought refuge in Mukachevo, where they connected with the psychological services offered by our partner, New Beginnings.
Finding Help and Community
Upon arrival, Rosa was introduced to New Beginnings through an informational flyer. She was added to a Viber group that shared resources and opportunities. Rosa and her children soon became active participants in New Beginnings’ support programs, including children’s clubs and parent support groups.
One evening, Rosa suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. With critical care and expensive medications provided through a charity program, Rosa’s life was saved. Her children stayed with her in the hospital, where New Beginnings’ psychologist, Tatiana, supported them and ensured their immediate needs were met.
Protection and Advocacy
During Rosa’s hospital stay, a man posing as a social worker threatened to take her children. New Beginnings intervened, revealing the man’s deceit and ensuring he was reported to authorities. Partners Igor and Alexandra Matveyuk became temporary guardians for Anna and Sofia, protecting them from trafficking and abduction.
A New Beginning
After her recovery, Rosa and her children continued to receive support from New Beginnings. They attended a field camp in the Carpathians and are now thriving together, actively participating in ongoing support programs.
